FREE YOUR MIND

Produced by The Factory International
Autumn 2023

We are very excited to share that our Co-Artistic Directors, Kenrick 'H2O' Sandy MBE and Michael 'Mikey J' Asante MBE will be collaborating as co-creators of Free Your Mind, working with director Danny Boyle, designer Es Devlin and writer Sabrina Mahfouz.

Based on the Wachowskis' classic film The Matrix, Free Your Mind allows you to explore a new realm of possibilities, combining hip hop dance with immersive performance.

The Factory International's first world premier and official opening show is a bold statement of intent, and not just because of its scale. The majority of the ensemble cast will be participants from across the region, reflecting the diversity of Manchester.

Tickets on sale 6 October 2022 on The Factory International's website.

The Creative Team

This dramatic retelling through dance, music and visual effects will bring together the visceral movement of choreographer Kenrick ‘H2O’ Sandy with a powerful score from renowned composer Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante, world-leading designer Es Devlin’s immense stage sculptures and the work of the acclaimed writer Sabrina Mahfouz– all directed by Danny Boyle.

Working with BAFTA-winning producer Tracey Seaward, this unique cross-art collaboration of world-leading artists, will showcase the breadth and ambition of Factory International’s artistic programme and invites audiences into a new realm of possibilities spanning real and imagined worlds.

Kenrick and Michael have previously collaborated with Tracey and Danny for the London's2012 Olympics opening ceremony. The Boy Blue co-founders are looking forward to working with Es, whose stage sculpture has stood out everywhere from Super blue Miami and the Serpentine to the Royal Opera House and Super Bowl. And poet playwright Sabrina whose work spans theatre (Noughts & Crosses), dance (Echoes and I Imagine), opera (I Am, I Say) and memoir (These Bodies of Water).

This is going to reconfigure your mind, body and spirit. After that, the rest is up to you.
